Double ocarina with non-connecting chambers and four fingerholes each, resembling two armadillos, whose heads transform into the mouthpieces. Made from authentic material. The model is somewhat larger than the original find. This instrument type is particularly interesting when played by two persons standing face to face to each other.

Teotihuacan Whistling Vessel

Type model based on a characteristic Teotihuacan whistling vessel form, dating into the Classic period of Mesoamerica. Monkey whistle on top of the closed vase and engraving of flower-design or fog/cloud-design on the vases. Made from authentic materials, approximate size. Until today, only a few whistling vessels from Teotihuacan are known.

Neolithic Horn (large)

Replica of ceramic horn with two handles for suspension, made from authentic materials in approximate size. The original was discovered in South France. It corresponds to the tradition of ceramic horns which begun in the final stage of the Neolithic. Its cultural contexts are unknown.

Chimú Whistling Vessel (red ware)

Type model replica based on a characteristic late-Chimú whistling vessel type, which was produced more frequently as black ware. Model made from authentic materials, approximate size. The whistle is located in the bird’s peak. This model does not present the secondary resonator common in many original Chimú artefacts.

Egyptian Lute (small)

Small spike lute made from a mixture of original and substitute materials, aproximate size. Wooden resonator in the shape of a turtoise shell (replacing the original shell from the Egyptian turtoise, Testudi kleinmanni), and a skin with 6 soundholes. Two gut strings of 1mm each. Wooden plectrum. Custom-made: resonator from plastic cast (turtoise shell replica) / red-dyed skin / wooden surface treatment (antique stain, laquering).

Maya Whistling Vessel

Maya whistling vessel made from authentic materials, approximate size. One of the few models of whistling vessels from the ancient Maya known until today. The whistle is located in the handle.

Chimú Whistling Vessel (black ware)

Model based on a characteristic Chimú whistling vessel type. Made from authentic materials, approximate size. The whistle is located in the bird’s peak. This whistling vase does not present the secondary resonator common in many original Chimú artefacts. You cannot even play, but also respire and produce the sounds of gurgling water. You could also pour out the liquid inside through the birds peak.

These ceramic objects are frequently discovered in burials and domestic contexts of the Late Neolithic cultures in central Germany. Their use as drums is probable, but so far not finally verified. Similar objects were found in China. Any type shown above could be reproduced.
